Announced October 7, 2026

What happened

According to AI Times, on October 7 (local time) Microsoft released a version of its coding model 'MAI-Code-1.1-Flash' optimized to run directly on PCs. The release was timed with the launch of next-generation PCs, including the NVIDIA RTX Spark-based 'Surface Laptop Ultra'. The model first came out in August. This version improves compute performance and memory efficiency for on-device use. The same outlet reported that the Surface Laptop Ultra can run a 120-billion-parameter model directly on the device.
