Claude Haiku 5.5 is now generally available in GitHub Copilot, with token pricing disclosed
Announced October 7, 2026
What happened
GitHub has made Anthropic's new lightweight model, Claude Haiku 5.5, generally available (GA) in GitHub Copilot. It is aimed at high-volume, fast-turnaround work such as subagents, quick edits and terminal tasks. According to a community write-up by Simon Willison, pricing is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts up to 100,000 tokens. Above 100,000 tokens the rates are five times higher, at $0.50/$2.50. The previous Haiku 4.5 was priced at $1/$5.
Provider claims
Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 is about 75% cheaper than Haiku 4.5 on average and is the first Haiku model with adjustable effort (reasoning intensity).
Why it matters
Just one day after launch, the model became a standard option in a major coding tool. It could change the cost structure of call-heavy workloads such as subagents.
