Anthropic launches small model Claude Haiku 5.5, available on Amazon Bedrock from day one

Announced October 7, 2026

What happened

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, the small model in its Claude 5.5 family. In an official blog post, AWS said the model is available on Amazon Bedrock and on 'Claude Platform on AWS'. The model is aimed at subagents, high-volume processing, and cost-sensitive work. An announcement shared in the community lists these use cases: repetitive tasks such as summarization and classification, coding subagents paired with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, real-time customer support, and browser use. The same announcement describes Haiku 5.5 as the first Haiku model with adjustable effort levels.

Provider claims

Anthropic said it is the fastest and most efficient model in the Claude 5.5 family, and that it costs about 75% less on average to run than Claude Haiku 4.5 for most tasks (as cited in the AWS blog). Anthropic also claims major improvements over Haiku 4.5 in coding, computer use, and knowledge work. The collected items do not include performance figures or comparison conditions.

Why it matters

Small models handle the most calls in subagent setups, so a lower unit price cuts the running cost of entire multi-agent workflows. Because the model was on Bedrock on launch day, companies can test it right away in their existing AWS environments.
