OpenAI infrastructure and compute chief Sachin Katti to step down next month; compute CTO Uday Ruddarraju to take over (reports)
Announced October 14, 2026
Verified (fact)
AI Times reported, citing Bloomberg, the WSJ and CNBC, that Sachin Katti, OpenAI's head of infrastructure and compute, will step down next month. Uday Ruddarraju, CTO of the compute division, will take over. Ruddarraju previously worked at xAI and will oversee the entire compute organization. Katti is leaving about a year after joining OpenAI from Intel late last year and will stay on as an adviser.
Why it matters (interpretation)
OpenAI is expanding beyond securing outside cloud capacity and is now acquiring its own data centers. Key people leading that effort keep changing, so it is worth watching how steadily the company can carry out its infrastructure expansion strategy.
