FADU unveils 'File-Semantic SSD' at OCP 2026, letting GPUs read files managed by the SSD without going through the CPU (report)
Announced October 15, 2026
Verified (fact)
According to a ZDNet Korea report, FADU unveiled the 'FS-SSD (File-Semantic SSD)' at the 2026 OCP Global Summit in San Jose, U.S. (12th–15th). Its sixth-generation controller carries dedicated file-handling firmware, so file address translation and access permission checks, previously handled by the server CPU and operating system, are processed inside the SSD. Accelerators such as GPUs and DPUs can access files in storage directly via standard NVMe commands without going through the CPU. Mass production and release timelines could not be confirmed from the input items.
Needs fact-check (claim)
The company claims it is the 'world's first' file-semantic SSD and says it fundamentally eliminates interaction latency between the GPU and CPU.
Why it matters (interpretation)
This is an attempt to ease, at the SSD level, the storage bottleneck in feeding data to GPUs for AI training and inference, and a differentiated product from a Korean data center chip company.
