Amazon stops using NDAs in data center negotiations with local governments, following Microsoft (report)
What happened
According to TechCrunch, Amazon said it will no longer use NDAs when negotiating data center deals with local governments. Microsoft took the same step earlier this year. The outlet reported that secret negotiations fueled community backlash, and that hundreds of data center moratoriums have been proposed or enacted from New York to San Francisco.
Why it matters
The main obstacle to expanding AI infrastructure is moving from power and land to local community acceptance. It signals that hyperscalers are changing their response toward greater transparency.
