Announced October 8, 2026

What happened

According to Bloter, materials from the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee annual audit, distributed by the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Jang Jong-tae, included answers from Tesla Korea CEO Seo Young-deuk. Seo said the company will pursue formal approval to bring supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) to China-made Tesla vehicles. Currently, about 78% of Tesla vehicles registered in Korea cannot use FSD. A specific application timeline and the likelihood of approval have not yet been determined.

Provider claims

Tesla Korea says it will go through the government's safety verification and approval process in line with the required procedures.

Why it matters

Most Tesla vehicles in Korea cannot currently use FSD. If the formal approval process begins, discussion could intensify over the standards Korea uses to verify and approve supervised autonomous driving features.
