SKT and Upstage launch 'sovereign AI cybersecurity alliance' with 6 security firms and 3 universities to train A.X K3 and next Solar on security data

Announced October 8, 2026

What happened

On the 7th, SK Telecom and Upstage formed an alliance and signed an agreement with six security companies (SK shieldus, SECUI, AhnLab, RaonSecure, Genians, and PIOLINK) and three universities (Korea University, Soongsil University, and Pusan National University), for a total of 11 participating organizations. The goal is to extend SKT's A.X K series and Upstage's Solar, both of which advanced to the third stage of the Korean government's 'Sovereign AI Foundation Model Project', into the security domain. Malware analysis and vulnerability assessment data from the security firms will be used to train SKT's next model, A.X K3, and the next Solar model; the universities will verify safety before the models are applied to participants' security products.

Why it matters

As AI-driven hacking grows, this is an industry alliance aiming to specialize Korean foundation models with real-world security data. The scope of training data sharing and the timing of actual product deployment have not been disclosed.
