Samsung Electronics posts preliminary Q3 operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, first Korean company above 100 trillion won in a quarter (report)

Announced October 8, 2026

What happened

According to reports, Samsung Electronics on the 8th announced preliminary consolidated Q3 2026 results of 195 trillion won in revenue and 107.4 trillion won in operating profit. Operating profit rose 782.5% from the same quarter a year earlier, and this is the first time a Korean company has exceeded 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit. The result also beat analyst estimates of 105–106 trillion won. Bloter cited analyst estimates that the semiconductor (DS) division's operating profit likely topped 110 trillion won, driven by expanded HBM supply for AI servers and rising memory prices. In contrast, profitability in the finished-products (DX) division was analyzed to have weakened due to higher component costs, currency fluctuations, and increased marketing spending.

Why it matters

The figure shows how strongly AI data center investment, by driving memory demand, is feeding into the earnings of Korean chipmakers. Confirmed results by division will come with the earnings release at the end of this month.
