Announced October 6, 2026
What happened
According to AI Times, Google signed a 3.59 GW nuclear power supply agreement with Constellation Energy on the 6th (local time), covering the largest power grid region in the US. Constellation will invest more than $4.3 billion to upgrade 11 nuclear reactors in states including Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. About a quarter of the total will be new capacity gained by uprating existing plants. The deal starts with a 20-year power purchase agreement for 890 MW from several plants.
Why it matters
Big Tech companies are now securing power for AI data centers through long-term nuclear contracts at gigawatt scale. This shows that access to power has become a key constraint on expanding AI infrastructure.
